Laying the Groundwork

Foundation forming is underway.  Not much to show but at least there is activity at the site.  After a year of talking about it the kids finally believe it is going to happen!  The foundation will be nearly 6' high in the rear thanks to the sloping lot, but the view of the Pedernales River should be nice.
View from the Driveway. Detached Garage on the left, house beyond it.
The neighbor's dogs get to know A & A and their cousin AJ who is visiting from San Francisco this week.

The Shining

Let's talk about lights.

We have decided to use recessed light in the majority of the home.  They are simple, provide effective lighting and are lower in cost.  To offset the unremarkable recessed lights in the living spaces we'll get a little funky with our other selections.

We're on the hook for lighting in the kitchen, all bathroom and powder rooms, and for each bedroom.  We are also providing all exterior lighting.  I would describe our lighting tastes to be equal parts industrial, modern, and simple.  We have a good short list now and here are the leading candidates.

For the Kids bathroom upstairs we really like this sconce from Barn Light Electric:

or maybe a couple of these guys:

There are a lot of cool, funky lights over at School House Electric & Supply.  Like these pendants for the kitchen island, and some great wall sconces for our powder room.

We're still up in the air for the outdoor lights.  Probably use one of these Vapor Proof sconces for the outdoor shower:

Breaking Ground

We have officially started!  Got a call from the builder last Thursday stating they would be on site Monday (April 1st) but that turned out to be an April Fools joke.  But he is there now with the foundation crew setting the forms.  Never thought this day would arrive...

I will get out to the site in a couple of days and post a photo of the progress.
